HealthHub is showing results
Earlier this year, Maninplace launched its new project called HealthHub, part of the Wellbeing Service and Wrap Around Support Service (WASS) within the organisation.
The purpose of the HealthHub is to address the health inequalities that are so often prevalent within the homeless community and to offer a drop-in service for people who are rough sleeping or homeless, who can access basic medical checks like blood pressure, Hep-C and blood sugar testing.
The HealthHub creates an environment that is friendly and welcoming, aiming to reduce any barriers to accessing basic healthcare for people who are actively living on our streets, or who are experiencing homelessness and are not registered with a GP service.
Homelessness brings many health dangers, not least from exposure to extreme temperatures, but also to more serious health conditions such as Hepatitis-C, a blood born condition passed through various means such as sharing needles among drug users. These types of conditions can go unnoticed for a considerable amount of time, putting the carrier at risk of greater health complications or death.
By offering a drop-in service in partnership with local charities and health services such as the Hepatitis-C Trust, STaRS, and more, we hope to open up access to testing and identifying some of these health conditions as early as possible, thus enabling access to appropriate treatment for people who may otherwise be missed.
Our thanks go to the partner organisations who have embraced this new project and are joining us for the drop-in sessions. We would also like to thank Madeley Baptist Church for hosting this month’s event which took place on the 19th July.
