Today, May 8th 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of WW2 Victory in Europe, (VE Day). It is time for us to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom, today.

It is estimated the almost 65 million people were made homeless or displaced across Europe, a figure that is almost imcomprehendible and difficult to imagine. Many people opened their doors to accommodate those who had lost homes due to bombing or forced evacuations.

The video below, documents some of those who were given accommodation at Displaced Person Centres set up to assist those who had nowhere else to turn.

As the country engages in a number of events to commemorate VE Day, we stop to remember those who gave their all to protect our tomorrow. We pay homage to the men and women who served in the military forces protecting our shores, and we remember that countless numbers who gave what they could to the millions who lost everything.
